Ivan Calderon vs. Hugo Cázares 2

Calderon is a guy I have heard a lot about. He's basically a Jr flyweight Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Round 1: I missed most of this round trying to get my stream to work. Calderon is always backing up and fighting defensively, rolling beautifully with the punches.

Round 2: Calderon backing up and making Hugo miss. Solid left from Ivan. he gets in and out nicely. avoiding damage. Hugo tries to measure with the jab but hes hitting air. A jab and a right from Calderon. Landing the jab more and more as the round progresses. Calderon has beautiful defence, making Hugo look silly with how he avoids his punches.

10-9 Calderon

Round 3: Calderon with two nice right hands in the first 30 seconds. right to the body left up top for Calderon. Hugo just cant land much. Hes always coming forward but no damaging punches being landed as a result of Ivan's defense. 10 seconds to go and Calderon knocks an off balance Hugo back and almost down to end the round.

10-9 Calderon

Round 4: Hugo trying to turn up the pressure, really swinging for the fences now, but again can't connect with anything significant. Calderon hits him with a right to keep his respect. Calderon tags him twice with the right jab. Hugo swinging with all his might but he cant connect. when he does land they are not powerful punches. Calderon lands a left right combo and another right to end the round. In the replay shots you think may have landed on Calderon breeze by his face. unreal.

10-9 Calderon.

Round 5: Hugo again comes out almost literally running after Calderon. two nice lefts from Calderon and one from Hugo. Calderon getting hit with the most significant punches of the fight so far. Stiff left hand from Calderon snaps Hugo's head back. Hugo gaining some confidence landing some good punches. He taunts Calderon by putting his hands up and coming forward. Very close round.

10-10 Even

Round 6: Hugo lands a body shot or two but eats a right. Calderon switching up his stance a lot here. Hugo with two solid punches. he remains unfazed by Calderon's defensive fighting style. he comes forward and lands some good shots this round.

10-9 Hugo

Round 7: Calderon with the gloves up but hes letting Hugo land punches. Hugo landing the jab. Calderon jabs him right back . oh boy accidental headbutt. ugly gash int he middle of Calderon's head. they are stopping the fight. that's a shame. this was shaping up to be an interesting fight as it went into the second half.

This will go to the scorecards and surely Calderon will get the nod. An unfortunate way to end the night though. Calderon gets the win. Not much more for me to add to this. It was an okay fight that was stopped on a cut and went to a technical decision for Mr. Calderon. Calderon was kind of fun to watch defense wise but I'm not sure I'd be excited to watch a career DVD set of his anytime soon.

Calderon has really only had fun fights since moving up to 108. At 105 he was still smaller than everyone but the talent out there that he was in with simply wasn't good enough to ever test him. The first fight with Cazares was really close, and Juan Esquer gave him a run too. Part of it is size. He doesn't cut to make the weight. If he cut, he could probably fight as low as 100lbs.
